Perimenopaus
Perimenopause is the natural transitional phase before menopause when your body begins to shift its hormonal patterns, often in your 40s but sometimes earlier. It is a biological process, not a disease. It is not a sign of losing your worth, your beauty, or your vitality. It is not the end of womanhood but the beginning of a new chapter in it. It is not the same for everyone; its length, symptoms, and experiences are deeply individual.
From love’s perspective, perimenopause is a call to turn inward with tenderness. It is a reminder to honor your body’s wisdom, to listen more closely, and to practice radical self-care. It invites softer mornings, gentler exercise, nourishing food, and emotional connection that replenishes.
From fear’s perspective, perimenopause can be seen as a threat to youth, beauty, and desirability. The changing body may trigger worry about aging, health, and identity. This view can lead to resistance, hiding, and disconnection from the very body that needs love most.
From sadness’s perspective, it can feel like a farewell to a familiar version of yourself. The hormonal shifts may bring mood changes, disrupted sleep, or a sense of loss for the energy and ease of earlier years. It can stir grief for time passed and uncertainty about the years ahead.
From a psychotherapy perspective, perimenopause is an opportunity to process unfinished emotional business. It’s a time when suppressed feelings often rise to the surface, asking to be acknowledged and integrated. Self-compassion, cognitive reframing, and supportive practices can help transform this phase into a time of empowerment rather than struggle.
From a soul perspective, perimenopause is a rite of passage—a sacred initiation into deeper wisdom, intuition, and authenticity. It strips away illusions and invites you to stand in your truth. It’s a time when the voice of the soul often becomes louder than the voice of the world.
From a quantum science perspective, your energy field is shifting alongside your hormones. The thoughts and emotions you carry during this time are influencing your biology, just as your biology influences your emotions. By aligning your mindset, breath, and energy, you can reduce symptoms and enhance vitality.
From a money perspective, perimenopause can influence how you value your time, energy, and work. It may inspire new priorities—choosing income streams that nourish rather than drain, and investing in health and personal growth as non-negotiables.
From a personal perspective, I have been noticing that I am revisiting childhood memories—some conscious, some unconscious—that surface in unexpected ways. At times, I find myself rebelling against the fact that I am going through this. I do take supplements, and the advice I’ve heard from almost every woman I’ve spoken to is to exercise every day, hydrate properly, and stretch daily. Personally, I have found that when I take my supplements, walk daily, and keep myself well hydrated, things become more manageable. I suggest you do your research, see what resonates with you, and go from there. Definitely link in with your GP to see what options are available to you. I have personally chosen to trial the holistic way—it’s a personal choice. I heard that my mother had really bad perimenopause symptoms, but that doesn’t necessarily mean mine will be the same. At the end of the day, I guess on some level, what you believe in your mind will shape your experience.
Final thoughts: perimenopause is not a decline; it is a recalibration. It is a chance to shed old layers, reclaim your energy, and step into a version of yourself that is richer, wiser, and more unapologetically you.
6-step exercise
Begin each day by placing your hand over your heart and saying, “I trust my body.”
Keep a symptom and mood journal to notice patterns and triggers.
Practice daily breathwork to regulate your nervous system.
Replace self-criticism with gratitude for what your body has carried you through.
Move your body in ways that feel supportive rather than punishing.
End each day with three things you’re proud of, no matter how small.
